Lincoln has a 134-mile trails network which is enjoyed year-round for recreation and transportation by residents and visitors to the area. One of the major features and strengths of Lincoln’s trails is the interconnectedness of the trails system; however, a major gap in the system is creating a safety issue and limiting the networks’ full potential. Currently, the Jamaica North Trail ends near the intersection of J and 4th Streets and there is no safe trail connection into the Haymarket area from this direction.
The Chris Beutler Trail in the planned South Haymarket Park near 7th and N Street will close the gap and provide a connector between the N Street Protected Bike Lane, the Jamaica North Trail and the Haymarket area trails. This quarter mile trail will serve as a key link between the Haymarket and the overall trail system for commuters and for park users coming from surrounding neighborhoods.
